The „Wörterbuch“ or dictionary is usually what we use to
translate words in order to gain understanding of words
we do not know. This "Wörterbuch" is different. It not only
translates words in different languages, it also translates
into a different system. Images and words have a complex
relation. Images may elaborate or extend the word, but
sometimes they are the word. Especially when the word
becomes a poem, the poem becomes an image.
This book brings together the work of 24 students of the
Tokyo University of the Arts, investigating the relation and
translation of images, words and ideas. They create a book
of semiosis.
Starting the journey into „Wort und Image“ students of the
first and second year of the Tokyo University of the Arts
investigated concrete and visual poetry and played with
meaning and significance and form as well as concentration
and poesy.
